Via Lushoto
In Mombo (on the B1 from Dar es Salaam to Moshi/Arusha) – the main junction in the center take a turn into the mountains. Follow the tarmac road, 1 hour to Lushoto (via Soni). In Lushoto, with the roundabout keep right and follow the tarmac road. At the roundabout in Magamba turn left, along the Sekumo university. After the end of the tarmac road follow the winding dust road, over the mountain pass to Lukozi, a busy market place. In the center of Lukozi, at a round-about with a big tree in the middle, turn left and follow the dust road for another hour till you see our sign boards. If lost ask for Mtae, which is 3 km past Mambo. <Google maps is directing the correct roads>
Via the shortcuts
The shortcuts will save you 30 minutes coming from Dar or 2 hours coming from Arusha, compared to the route via Lushoto.
1.5 km south of Mkomazi village turn to the east.
After 4 km cross the railroad and turn right in the direction of Mnazi
Alternative 1: Continue for 40 km (1 hour) to Langoni and turn right into the mountains. Up in Mtai follow the mainroad and on Mambo junction turn right and follow the signboards.
Alternative 2: (less steep) Follow the road for 7 km and turn left in the direction of Manolo. After the palins you will climb the mountain to 1800 meter. On the T-juction turn left and in Manolo turn left and follow google maps and our sign boards.
For the shortcuts is is preferable to have a carr with a good clearance. 4×4 is not strictly needed.
By Public transport
From Arusha/Moshi you have 3 options:
1 – A cultural experience by the local Fasaha bus to Mtae leaving @ 6:00. Arriving between 16:00 and 17:00. From the Mambo Junction (3km before Mtae) you can take a motorbike to the lodge for 3000 TZS.
2 – By express bus (Dar express, Kilimanjaro express or other), change in Mombo from there by taxi or local bus. A taxi from Mombo or Lushoto is included in the all-inclusive packages.
From Dar es Salaam you have 3 options:
1 – A cultural experience by 6:00 Kibomboi, Shambalai or other bus to Mtae. Arriving between 16:00 and 17:00. From the Mambo Junction (3km before Mtae) you can take a motorbike to the lodge for 3000 TZS.
2 – By 6:00 express bus to Lushoto or Mombo and from there by taxi. A taxi from Mombo or Lushoto is included in the all-inclusive packages.
